Focus Supplement Ingredients and What the Studies Used

Quick answer

A focus supplement usually combines a plant extract such as bacopa, a choline source, B vitamins and sometimes a caffeine source such as green tea extract. Evidence for focus is modest, and trials tested stated extract amounts that many labels, including the CogniHoney list given to this site, do not print.

What do focus supplements contain?

Most pair a plant extract with a choline source and B vitamins, and some add a caffeine source such as green tea extract.

No rule says what a focus capsule must hold. Makers pick from a short menu of familiar names.

B vitaminsB6, B12, folic acidNear the daily need, or far above it?
Caffeine sourcesGreen tea extract, guaranaIs the caffeine amount stated at all?

What do studies of these ingredients actually use?

Studies use stated amounts of standardized extracts, usually for months, and the results for focus are modest.

A review of six bacopa trials in adults without dementia used three extracts at 300 to 450 mg of extract a day for 12 weeks. It found better free recall on 9 of 17 memory tests (Pase 2012, bacopa review). A pooled analysis of nine trials saw faster reaction time; its authors asked for a larger study (Kongkeaw 2014, bacopa meta-analysis).

For choline, the adequate intake is 550 mg a day for men and 425 mg for women. A 2015 review found supplements did not clearly improve cognition in healthy adults (NIH ODS, Choline). B vitamins matter if you are truly low. None of these trials tested a CogniHoney capsule.

Which of these names are in the CogniHoney list?

Eleven names appear in the list given to this site for the sibling pack, with no milligram amount for any of them.

Confirm every line on your bottle. The percentages printed beside four lines do not say what they refer to.

Names as given in the list given to this site for the sibling pack, in that order (lutein and zeaxanthin share a row here, so 11 names make 10 rows). A percent in brackets is printed in that list; what it measures is not stated. No milligram amount is printed anywhere we can see, and none is invented. Confirm every line and amount on your bottle.

Bacopa, AGP choline (read as alpha-GPC), two B vitamins and green tea extract fit the focus menu. Pink salt, cinnamon extract, lutein and bilberry leaf do not, and no source we hold ties them to focus. See the ingredient overview.

Does a caffeine source change what you are buying?

It can, because caffeine is the one ingredient most people feel within an hour.

Green tea contains caffeine, and NCCIH notes that rare liver injury has been reported mainly with green tea extract in capsules (NCCIH, Green Tea). A line reading "50%" gives neither caffeine nor catechin content, so count it as an unknown source beside your coffee. Ask a pharmacist first if you take a statin or beta-blocker; see medicine safety.

Compare two labels by named extract, stated amount and cost per day, and treat every blank as a blank. At two capsules a day, a 30-capsule bottle lasts 15 days; the render prints 30, so confirm the count.

FAQ01

CogniHoney questions people ask

Which ingredients are most common in focus supplements?

Bacopa, ginkgo, alpha-GPC or citicoline, B vitamins and a caffeine source such as green tea extract are the usual names. None of the trials tested a CogniHoney capsule.

Do focus supplements contain caffeine?

Some do, often through green tea extract or guarana, but a label may not state the amount. If the milligrams are missing, treat the caffeine as unknown and count it with your coffee.

Is there good evidence that these ingredients help focus?

The evidence is modest. Pooled bacopa trials showed faster attention and reaction time, but the authors asked for a larger study before drawing a firm conclusion.

Does CogniHoney list caffeine?

The sibling-pack list names green tea extract (50%), which can carry caffeine, but states no caffeine amount. Confirm on your bottle.
