Alpha-GPC and Choline Safety: What Is Known
Alpha-GPC is not proven safe or proven harmful. One Korean cohort linked it to more strokes and a mouse study found plaque effects, but both are weak evidence for people. No study tested CogniHoney, and no choline amount is printed in our materials.

Is alpha-GPC safe?
It is not proven safe or proven harmful; the two warning signals are both weak in different ways.
Alpha-GPC is a form of choline. The list given to this site for the sibling pack names "AGP choline", which we read as alpha-GPC. That list is unconfirmed, so check your bottle.
A large Korean insurance cohort linked alpha-GPC use to more strokes (Lee 2021, alpha-GPC and stroke). A mouse study found that GPC promoted artery plaque through gut bacteria (Mouse study, GPC and atherosclerosis). Neither shows that a capsule caused harm in a person.
What did the stroke study actually find?
It found a link, not a cause, in people who were older and had been prescribed the product.
Adults aged 50 or older with no earlier stroke were followed for ten years. Alpha-GPC users had a higher stroke risk after matching, rising with dose (Lee 2021, alpha-GPC and stroke). The authors call for more study. The mouse work asks how a molecule might harm arteries and answers in animals only (Mouse study, GPC and atherosclerosis).
| Signal | Suggests | Cannot show |
|---|---|---|
| Korean cohort | Higher stroke risk among users | That alpha-GPC caused the strokes |
| Mouse study | A gut-bacteria route to plaque | An effect at a human dose |
| CogniHoney list | Nothing; no study tested it | Safety or harm of the capsule |
How much choline is too much?
The federal upper level is 3,500 mg of choline a day from all sources, and no amount is printed for the CogniHoney line.
Adequate intakes are 550 mg a day for men and 425 mg for women. High intakes are linked to fishy odor, vomiting, sweating, low blood pressure and liver toxicity (NIH ODS, Choline). That page does not name alpha-GPC, so treat the limits as a rough guide. Food already supplies choline, and a capsule adds to it.

What is a sensible next step?
Read your bottle for the choline line and its amount, then show it to a pharmacist.
The sibling-pack wording says two capsules daily; at that rate 30 capsules last 15 days, so settle questions before buying a larger pack. No study has tested CogniHoney.
