Do Brain Supplements Work? What NIA and Trials Say
Not for preventing decline. NIA says no vitamin or supplement is recommended for preventing Alzheimer's or cognitive decline, and trials of single ingredients are small, short or negative. A few small bacopa trials found better scores on some recall tests. No study has tested CogniHoney itself.

Do brain supplements work?
NIA says no vitamin or supplement is recommended for preventing Alzheimer's or cognitive decline. Trials of single ingredients are small, short or negative (NIA, Cognitive Health and Older Adults).
That sentence is a verdict on prevention, which is what most shelf labels hint at. It is not a verdict on every possible small effect in every person. Those two questions get mixed up in advertising, so keep them apart.
NIA's other page adds why the evidence stays weak: many studies were too small or too brief (NIA, Diet and Prevention of Alzheimer's). "Work" also needs a definition. Fewer lapses next year, a higher score on a word list after 12 weeks and feeling sharper are three different outcomes with three different bodies of evidence.
What did the big ingredient trials find?
Mostly nothing, with a few narrow exceptions.
| Ingredient | Trial result |
|---|---|
| Ginkgo | Over 3,000 adults aged 75 or older, median 6 years: no difference in dementia (NCCIH, Ginkgo) |
| B vitamins | Five trials in 879 people with mild cognitive impairment: probably little or no effect on episodic memory (McCleery 2018, Cochrane B vitamins) |
| Lutein and zeaxanthin | About 5 years in 3,741 older adults: no significant effect on a cognitive score (Chew 2015, AREDS2 cognition) |
| Bacopa | Small 12-week trials: better scores on some recall tests (Pase 2012, bacopa review) |
All of these tested one ingredient in a stated amount. None tested CogniHoney.
Where does the sibling-pack list stand?
It names some of those ingredients and prints no amounts for any of them.
A trial result belongs to a specific amount, for a specific time, in a specific group. The bottle front uses claim-style phrases instead. Set them next to what the sources show.
- Bottle front“Advanced Cognitive Support For Memory, Focus & Clarity*”Names no condition and no measurable result. NIA says no vitamin or supplement is recommended for preventing Alzheimer's or cognitive decline, and no trial has tested CogniHoney. (NIA, Diet and Prevention of Alzheimer's) (NIA, Cognitive Health and Older Adults)
- Bottle icon line“Memory & Recall Support*”Small trials of bacopa found better scores on some word-recall tests; the large ginkgo trial found no effect on dementia; B vitamins and lutein did not help memory in trials. None tested this capsule. (Pase 2012, bacopa review) (DeKosky 2008, GEM trial)
- Bottle icon line“Focus & Mental Clarity Formula*”A bacopa meta-analysis found faster attention and reaction times and called for a larger trial. 'Clarity' is not a measured outcome. (Kongkeaw 2014, bacopa meta-analysis)
- Bottle icon line“Supports Cognitive Health*”'Supports' is structure/function wording: the maker needs substantiation and an FDA disclaimer, and FDA does not approve it before sale. (FDA, Structure/Function Claims)
- Common question“Is CogniHoney FDA approved?”No supplement is. FDA does not approve dietary supplements for safety and effectiveness before sale. (FDA 101: Dietary Supplements)
- Common claim“Clinically proven”The FTC says benefit claims generally need randomized, controlled human trials of the product, and testimonials never substantiate them. We found no such trial of this product. (FTC, Health Products Compliance Guidance)
- Common search“Does honey improve memory?”The list given to this site names no honey. This site did not review honey research, so it makes no claim about honey and memory. (NCCIH, Using Dietary Supplements Wisely)

See packsHow can you judge a brain supplement yourself?
Ask four questions of any label.
Who tested the product?
A trial of an ingredient is not a trial of the capsule.
What amount, for how long?
If the label prints no amount, you cannot match it to any trial.
What outcome was measured?
A test score, a diagnosis and a feeling are different things.
What does it interact with?
Ask a pharmacist; see medicine safety.
If memory trouble is the reason you are shopping, see a doctor first: it may have treatable causes (Mayo Clinic, Memory Loss). More in our memory supplement page.
Is a bottle still worth trying?
That is a personal call, made with a clear view of the gap.

FAQ01
CogniHoney questions people ask
Do brain supplements really work?
Not for preventing decline, per NIA. Trials of single ingredients are small, short or negative.
Is there any supplement NIA recommends for memory?
No. NIA says no vitamin or supplement is recommended for preventing Alzheimer's or cognitive decline.
Why do some people say a brain supplement helped them?
Personal impressions are real to the person but cannot separate the capsule from sleep, mood or chance.
Does a longer trial change the answer?
It can. Most trials of these ingredients were short, so a longer, larger one would be more informative.
