CogniHoney Research: What Exists and What Does Not

Quick answer

No clinical trial of CogniHoney was found. Research does exist on some single ingredients, such as ginkgo, bacopa, B vitamins and lutein, and the findings are mixed and modest. That research used other products at stated doses, so it cannot be read as a result for these capsules.

Is there research on CogniHoney?

No clinical trial of the product was found, and no source we hold tests it.

The sibling-pack list names eleven lines. Some have been studied one at a time. None has been studied in this combination, in this capsule.

We found no source saying pink salt, bilberry leaf or cinnamon helps memory.

What research exists on the single ingredients?

The best-studied are ginkgo, bacopa, B vitamins and lutein with zeaxanthin, with modest and mixed findings.

Amounts below belong to the trials, not to CogniHoney.

Amounts used or recommended in public sources. None of these is the amount in CogniHoney: no amount is printed in the materials given to this site.
IngredientAmount in the sourceWhat the source foundCatch
Bacopa monnieri extract300 to 450 mg a day for 12 weeks or moreBetter free recall on 9 of 17 memory tests (6 small trials); faster attention and reaction time (9 trials) (Pase 2012, bacopa review) (Kongkeaw 2014, bacopa meta-analysis)Small, short, different extracts; none tested this capsule
Ginkgo biloba extract120 mg twice a day for a median 6.1 years (GEM trial)No reduction in dementia in 3,069 adults aged 75 or older (DeKosky 2008, GEM trial) (Birks 2009, Cochrane ginkgo)Cochrane: benefit inconsistent and unreliable
Lutein 10 mg + zeaxanthin 2 mgDaily for about 5 years (AREDS2)No significant effect on a composite cognitive score in 3,741 older adults (Chew 2015, AREDS2 cognition)Tested for eye disease first

How strong is that research?

Strongest for what it failed to show, and thin for what it hints at.

The ginkgo evidence is large. The GEM trial gave 3,069 adults aged 75 or older ginkgo extract or placebo for a median of 6.1 years, and dementia rates did not differ (DeKosky 2008, GEM trial).

Bacopa looks more encouraging on paper. Nine trials of 518 people showed shorter times on two attention tasks, and the authors asked for a larger trial (Kongkeaw 2014, bacopa meta-analysis).

Lutein and zeaxanthin showed no significant effect on cognitive scores in 3,741 older adults (Chew 2015, AREDS2 cognition).

What does research on a single ingredient not tell you?

It does not tell you about the capsule, the dose, or the combination.

  • It cannot confirm the amount in this product.
  • It cannot cover your medicines. Ginkgo can raise bleeding risk with anticoagulants (NCCIH, Ginkgo).
  • It cannot override the National Institute on Aging, which recommends no vitamin or supplement to prevent cognitive decline (NIA, Cognitive Health and Older Adults).

The memory supplement evidence page covers the wider picture.

How should you use this research?

As a list of questions for your pharmacist, not as a promise.

Ginkgo has the largest trial, the GEM study of 3,069 adults, which found no effect on dementia (DeKosky 2008, GEM trial).

Can ingredient research predict what the capsule does?

No. Doses, extracts and combinations differ, and no amount is printed in the materials we hold.

Where can I read the sources myself?

Each cited source is linked in the references at the foot of the post.
