CogniHoney and Stroke: The Alpha-GPC Signal
One large cohort linked alpha-GPC, likely the form behind "AGP choline" on the sibling-pack list, to a higher 10-year stroke risk. It shows association, not cause, and no study has tested CogniHoney. Ask a doctor first if you have stroke risk factors, and call 911 for sudden stroke signs.

Is there a stroke concern?
One large cohort linked alpha-GPC to higher stroke risk. It shows association, not cause. Ask a doctor if you have stroke risk factors.
The list given to this site for the sibling pack names "AGP choline", which we read as alpha-GPC. The list is unconfirmed, so check your bottle. If the reading is right, the cohort below applies to one of the eleven lines.
That study followed Korean adults aged 50 or older with no prior stroke or Alzheimer's. Alpha-GPC users had a higher 10-year risk of total stroke, with an adjusted hazard ratio of 1.43, in a dose-response pattern (Lee 2021, alpha-GPC and stroke).
How much weight does that finding carry?
Enough to ask a question, not enough to reach a verdict.
The authors themselves note that users were older and had been prescribed the product, and they call for more study (Lee 2021, alpha-GPC and stroke). The FTC makes the general point that observational studies show association, not cause (FTC, Health Products Compliance Guidance). A mouse study separately found that GPC promoted atherosclerosis through gut bacteria, but it does not show the same effect in people (Mouse study, GPC and atherosclerosis).
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Does it prove alpha-GPC causes stroke? | No; it is observational |
| Can it be dismissed? | No; it is large and shows a dose pattern |
| Does it test CogniHoney? | No; no study has |
| Do we know the alpha-GPC amount in a capsule? | No; none is printed anywhere we hold |
Who should ask a doctor first?
Anyone with stroke risk factors, which a doctor can list for you.
That includes a previous stroke or mini-stroke, heart disease, high blood pressure and a family history. A clinician weighs those with your medicines. Choline also has an upper level of 3,500 mg a day from all sources, and high intakes are linked to low blood pressure and a raised TMAO (NIH ODS, Choline). We cannot add up your intake without amounts.
Our page on the choline and stroke signal gives the longer version, and the AGP choline page covers the ingredient.

See packsWhat are the signs of a stroke?
Sudden ones, and they need 911, not a supplement.
CDC says to call 911 right away for sudden weakness in the face, arm or leg, sudden trouble speaking, vision problems or a sudden severe headache. Do not drive yourself, and treat a symptom that passes as urgent too (CDC, Stroke Signs and Symptoms).
- Bleeding or bruisingUnusual bruising, nosebleeds, blood in urine or stool, or heavy bleeding. Stop the capsules and call your doctor; ginkgo is named in the list.
- Stomach upset, dizziness, headacheThe usual complaints named for ginkgo and bacopa. Stop and ask your pharmacist if they continue.
- Liver warning signsAbdominal pain, dark urine, or yellowing of the skin or eyes. Stop and see a clinician the same day (green tea extract, cassia cinnamon).
- Allergic reactionHives, swelling of the lips or face, or wheezing. Stop and get help.
- Call 911, do not driveFace drooping, arm weakness, slurred speech, sudden confusion, sudden vision loss, a sudden severe headache, or chest pain: call 911 right away.
Stroke signs: CDC (CDC, Stroke Signs and Symptoms). Liver signs: USP caution on green tea extract (USP 2020, green tea extract review). This list is not complete, and a supplement is never a reason to wait.
Does the signal change the purchase?
It adds one more reason to ask before buying.
The benefit is unproven and the stroke association is unexplained. If your doctor is comfortable, you can decide with them.

FAQ01
CogniHoney questions people ask
Does CogniHoney cause strokes?
No study has tested CogniHoney. One cohort linked alpha-GPC, likely the form in "AGP choline", to higher stroke risk, which shows association only.
Is alpha-GPC dangerous?
That is not established. The cohort shows a link, the authors call for more study, and a mouse result does not show the same effect in people.
Should I avoid it if I had a mini-stroke?
Ask your doctor first. A previous stroke or TIA is the kind of risk factor the finding makes worth discussing.
What if I feel stroke symptoms after taking a capsule?
Call 911 right away and tell the crew what you took. Do not drive yourself.
